Enterprise Technology Services provides data backup and recovery services for servers. Once configured, the software automatically backs up your system to a central, secure storage facility within a specified window each workday. Additional copies can be stored offsite. If you accidentally overwrite or delete a file, you can recover it yourself using the client software. File recovery is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
This service, which uses the NetWorker product from Dell/EMC, has been in use at UVM since 1995.
The service is a file based backup solution with Full, Differential and Incremental save levels. Full saves are run once per month. Differential saves (all the changes since the last full) are run once a week. Incremental saves are run daily. Custom schedules are possible.
If desired, the monthly full save is cloned to tape and stored in a secure location for up to two years. File recovery from the stored tapes require one business day for the tape to be transported from the storage facility.
For Windows servers, the daily backup is started between 9pm and 10pm. For Linux servers, the daily backup is started between 1am and 2am.
